Description

Amoksil ( amoxicillin ) is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, and infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract.

It has a bactericidal effect. It is active against aerobic gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (except for strains producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp.; aerobic gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp.

In combination with metronidazole, it exhibits activity against Helicobacter pylori. It is believed that amoxicillin inhibits the development of Helicobacter pylori resistance to metronidazole.

Amoxicillin may help to treat bacterial bronchitis. According to some studies, 50 percent patients with moderate or severe bronchitis were randomly allocated into groups receiving orally either 1000 mg amoxycillin twice daily or 750 mg three times daily. Overall cure rates were both 92%.

Amoxicillin is used for the treatment of acute otitis media 

If your child’s ear hurting it could be an ear infection. Children are more likely than adults to get ear infections. Some ear infections, such as middle ear infections, need antibiotic treatment. There are different types of ear infections. Middle ear infection (acute otitis media) is an infection in the middle ear. Another condition that affects the middle ear is called otitis media with effusion. It occurs when fluid builds up in the middle ear without being infected and without causing fever, ear pain, or pus buildup in the middle ear. When the outer ear canal is infected, the condition is called “swimmer’s ear,” which is different from a middle ear infection. Middle ear infections can be caused by:

1. Bacteria, like Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae  —the two most common bacterial causes
2. Viruses, like those that cause colds or flu

Amoxicillin is effective for treating certain types of UTI, especially those related to kidney and bladder infections. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria responsible for the infection, helping to clear the infection from the urinary system. By targeting the source of the infection, its use promotes relief from symptoms such as painful urination and the constant urge to urinate. It’s important to complete the full course of amoxicillin to ensure the infection is fully treated and to prevent antibiotic resistance. If left untreated, UTIs can spread to the kidneys, which can lead to more serious complications.

How To Use

Amoxicillin 500 mg is taken twice a day, morning and evening for 7 days.

Take amoxicillin at the same time each day. Amoxicillin may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it with food to prevent stomach upset, enhance absorption, or improve its effectiveness.

Amoxicillin is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and is often prescribed to treat bacterial infections. Consult a doctor for clarification.

Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms quickly improve. Skipping doses can increase your risk of infection that is resistant to medication.

Store tablets and capsules at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light.
